INDOOR RACING OR COMPETITIVE GAMES
Hoops games, relay games, the handkerchief game … are great ideas for children to play indoors and enjoy healthy competitions before or after snack. Do you want more ideas? Keep reading.
SHOE BOX RACE
Tape the lids to the shoe boxes and cut the top about 2 cm wide and 6 cm long. Have the kids put them on for a big foot race (make it a relay if you don’t have enough space or shoe boxes).
This game can be adapted to many topics and it can also become a fun activity. For a space themed party, paint silver boxes and name them astronaut boots. For an animal party , decorate boxes to look like hooves or paws. For a racing car theme, ask the children to draw racing wheels and stripes on the boxes … they’ll be entertained for a long time!
STACKING GIFTS
Before opening the party favors, use them for a game (or two). Set fragile packages aside, then challenge guests to create piles of creative gifts. To play, gather a stack of wrapped gifts of various sizes and shapes (try to have pairs of similar boxes; gift bags won’t work). The more gifts the better. You can also play with empty pre-wrapped boxes. Divide the gifts into two groups, with similar items in each group. Two players sit on their backs, each facing a pile of gifts. They will be working as a team .
In front of just one of the two seated players, ask a third player to create a stacking arrangement with the gifts: putting them on top, stacking them on top of each other. Each gift must touch at least one other gift, and no other accessories are allowed. Next, the player who can see the pile of stacked gifts must describe it to the other player so that they can recreate it. Use a stopwatch or timer to track how long it takes.
You can also remove the competitive angle and just play for fun. Or, give each team a time limit of three to five minutes and see how many stacks they can create and recreate in that time. For yet another variation, hold a relay race by having players take turns carrying their stacks to a display table.
