Being a parent is not easy. Proof of this are the large number of decisions that must be made daily for the best of our children. The idea of paying them is very good for many parents, since in this way they learn to manage their own money and decide if they want to spend it, on what or if they prefer to learn how to save.
However, children should not always be given the same amount of pay, since depending on their age they will need more or less money , also depending on their needs. At PregDream we tell you how to pay our children in the best way according to their age.
Until a child is 6 years old, he has no need for money. In addition, you will not understand the concept of the cost of things very well, so you do not need to have a savings. If we reward him with a coin, he will not be fully aware of its value either, so he can abandon it or hurt himself with it.
So, if we decide to give him money before he is six years old, the best thing is that we give it to him in the form of coins of little value, that is, one or two euros. What we can do is show him that with this coin you can buy certain things, in this way he will gradually learn the value of money and, when he is older, he will be able to start having his own coins, spending them on whatever he wants or accumulate them to be able to acquire anything else of more value.
Coins can be dangerous for such young children as they can be swallowed or put in their noses or ears. The best thing then will be to show it to him, show him that it is his and spend it with him , instead of leaving it in his possession, since he will not quite know what to do with it.
PAY FROM 7 TO 13 YEARS
During this age group, the money will only be used to buy sweets or a game that they want and that we have not wanted to buy yet. The most normal thing is that they are not yet aware of what it is to save to a great extent, so they tend to spend the money just when it falls into their hands .
For this reason, it is very common to see children of this age in candy stores or shopping centers when they leave school. If we really want our children to learn to save, we must be the ones to manage their money. For example, if you receive 5 euros from a relative we have to advise you to put 3 euros in a piggy bank (which we will buy with them so that they like it and make them excited) and spend the other two on trinkets or whatever he wants.
Whenever, from this moment on, your children want something and it is not their birthday, we can advise them to keep saving to buy it. So, if he asks you to want a certain toy, you should not give in. You have to tell him that he can only buy it when he has enough savings. You must bear in mind that the cost of the toy is not very high, since a child from 7 to 13 years old will not have enough income in months to buy something over 20 euros.
This technique is very good, because when the toy can be purchased, it will greatly value all the time it has been saving and the value of what has been bought. You will treat it better and you will be aware that if it breaks it will cost you a lot of time and effort to buy it.
PAY FROM AGE 14 TO ADULTHOOD
From the age of 14 your children will want to go out and have fun with your friends. That implies that you will have expenses as common as buying a snack or having a soda . As you get older these expenses will increase as you will want to go out more and more often.
The outings will become more complex , such as going to a rural house or to have dinner out and to the disco, so the expenses will be much higher. Therefore, the pay should grow progressively as our child gets older. However, you should not give him a lot of money, as he will not understand the value of it and will spend it constantly no matter where it comes from.
Mark yourself to give him the pay one day of the week, so he must learn to manage the money until 7 days have passed. Be very persistent with this goal, always the same amount and the same day, you learn how much it costs to make the money last and when you work and have a fixed salary you will know how to manage yourself perfectly. Do not give in to when he asks you for more money or on different days, otherwise all this learning will have been of no use and he will not know how much it costs you to earn it.
Once your son has finished his studies or is of legal age, it will be time for you to let him earn a living and put into practice everything he has learned thanks to the value of having paid him his entire life.
