HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THE BABY’S SKIN AS SOON AS IT IS BORN
The newborn’s skin is immature and tender, since it is still forming . As it is not yet tanned, we should use cotton and light clothing, especially for a newborn, in order not to damage it. Regardless of whether the child was born in hot or cold weather, we must avoid exposure to the sun as much as possible , because it will be highly harmful to our baby.
If the baby is not well fed or is not drinking enough water this can also be reflected in his skin , more irritation or dryness will appear. Therefore, nutrition and hydration are crucial for the health of our baby’s skin.
THERE ARE AREAS IN OUR BABY’S BODY IN WHICH WE MUST BE MORE CAREFUL, ESPECIALLY BEHIND THE EARS AND FACE.
Every time we go to touch the baby we must have clean and disinfected hands . It would be convenient not to wash them with products that contain alcohol or colonies, because these will also be harmful to our little one’s skin. With the same neutral soaps with which we can clean the baby, we can also clean our hands every time we want to kiss, move or hold the little one.
The same applies if we have a skin infection such as herpes or eczema . If we have any of these skin diseases, it is convenient to touch the baby’s skin as little as possible, because we could infect it. It is best to discuss it with a professional so that he can advise us in the best possible way, so that our baby is healthy and protected.
WHAT PRODUCTS CAN OR CANNOT BE APPLIED
As for the products that we can apply to our little ones, we must always buy them specifically for the newborn baby. It is also important that the brand is trustworthy and that the product itself does not contain colonies or alcohols that can irritate the child’s skin.
As the skin is still forming, it is thinner than adult skin. Thus, moisturizers and soaps will be more easily absorbed and we must take into account that they are not too greasy so that they do not carry away the natural fat from the baby’s skin that it still maintains from when it was in the mother’s womb.
When we apply any product on the skin of the little one we must take into account that the skin is free of other products in order not to irritate it. If we have applied moisturizing cream, we will not apply any other product on the baby’s skin until he has been bathed again and cleansed the skin of any other product.
THE NEWBORN’S SKIN IS IMMATURE AND TENDER, SINCE IT IS STILL FORMING
When we apply soap or moisturizing creams, we can do it with a light massage that will also help the baby to calm down and feel more relaxed. In addition, this light massage will help you spread the cream or soap better on the child’s skin. These soaps or creams should always be PH4 or 4’5 maximum , but never higher than it, since this is the most suitable for our baby.
Finally, if we want to apply cologne to the baby, it is best to apply it lightly on clothing, but it is better not to apply it on the skin . Although it is a cologne indicated for newborns, and always accepted by our doctor, we should put it better on the baby’s clothes (and that part of the clothes that does not touch the skin) because this way we can avoid possible friction or irritation.
