Social causes of school anxiety
Your children may have school anxiety, but not only for failing exams, there are other factors that can affect them, we must find solutions as soon as possible!
School stress and anxiety in teens can go much further than just getting nervous about having exams or recoveries after the holidays. This stress is often most apparent at the end of the summer, when school is about to start again, but it can occur all year long. Where does stress and anxiety come from? Social, academic, and scheduling factors play a role, as do hidden environmental stressors.
SOCIAL STRESSORS
Many children experience a certain level of stress or anxiety in social situations that they encounter at school. While some of these problems provide important opportunities for growth, they must be handled carefully and if they cause anxiety they must be addressed as soon as possible.
Teachers
If you have a good teacher you can have a positive impact on the life of a child, but if it is the opposite … the bad experience can also affect you very negatively. While most teachers do their best to provide students with a positive educational experience, some students are better suited to certain teaching styles and classes than others. If there is a mismatch between student and teacher, a child can form long-lasting negative feelings about school or his own abilities.
The friends
While most students would say that friends are one of their favorite aspects of school, they can also be a source of stress and emotional distress. Concerns about not having enough friends, not being in the same class as other of their friends, having interpersonal conflicts, and peer pressure are some of the most common ways children can feel stressed . Dealing with these issues alone can cause anxiety in even the most confident children.
Bullying
Bullying is not for children, in fact adults are increasingly aware of this and it helps children who are victims of bullying and even help bullies to stop being so since normally when they attack others it is because they have internal problems. Many schools now have anti-bullying programs and policies. Although bullying still occurs in many schools, even those with these policies, help is generally more accessible than it was years ago.
The bad news is that bullying has become more aggressive due to new technology. Many students use the Internet, phones, and other multimedia devices to bully other students, and this type of bullying often becomes very aggressive. One reason is that bullies can be anonymous and enlist other bullies to make the victim even worse.
Lack of family time
Due to family stress and the workload of parents and responsibilities of children, many families lack time for their members. Many families find that they are too busy to spend time together. Due to the lack of family time available, many parents are not as connected with their children, nor are they aware of the problems they face, as they would like … causing severe emotional problems in the children.
Parents need to do their part to connect with their children every day. Quality family time is vital.
Not getting enough sleep
Unfortunately, this is not just a problem that adults face. As schedules fill up with homework, extracurricular activities , family time, and (hopefully) a little downtime each day, kids often get less sleep than they need. Studying or doing things with a sleep deficit doesn’t just mean drowsiness, it can also lead to poor cognitive functioning, lack of coordination, moodiness, and other negative effects. Teens need to have and learn good sleep hygiene.
The diet is also very important to have it balanced, as well as to have a good academic preparation and a healthy lifestyle where emotional intelligence is even more important than intelligence itself.
